What are the goals of the testnet, when is DOP’s token being released, and how can you get involved? Here, we reveal all.

DOP’s testnet is launching — allowing you to put our cutting-edge infrastructure through its paces and experience what truly private transactions feel like.

It’s already causing quite a buzz on X and Telegram, so let’s run you through the key things you need to know.

We want to reward our early supporters

About 1% of DOP’s total supply is being allocated  as testnet rewards.

They’re going to have a vesting period of two years — with claims on a monthly basis.

It’s our way of saying thank you for giving feedback, and helping us to iron out any potential bugs within the protocol.

DOP tokens earned during this experimentation period can only be claimed once the token officially launches — and of course, we’ll keep you updated on when this is.

To make the process as slick as possible, we’re integrating a dedicated feature for claiming tokens on the testnet website.

Our number one goal is to be user-friendly

Far too often, up-and-coming blockchains with brilliant ideas are undermined by poor execution, with an overly technical interface that users struggle to understand.

Data Ownership Protocol is changing the narrative by ensuring our tools are intuitive and easy to use.

Our goal is to provide an effortless experience — and an environment where you can experiment freely without frustration.

Achieving this is crucial for communicating to the masses why selective transparency matters, and reducing friction for curious consumers who want to give it a go.

We’re initially going to be based on the Sepolia testnet.

How to get involved

First up, head to the official page for the DOP testnet and agree to the terms of use.

If you haven’t got a DOP wallet yet, you’ll then be invited to create it. Alternatively, you can import one that’s already been established.

At this point, it’s important to take note of your secret recovery phrase and key — ensuring they’re kept in a secure location.

Next, you will need to connect your MetaMask wallet.

There are eight steps you need to follow in order to be eligible for the testnet reward. A confirmation message will be displayed as each stage is successfully completed.

Step 1: Follow us!

Steps 2 to 4: Claim the testnet tokens

Once logged in, you’ll see that there are Claim buttons for test tokens. You’ll get:

• 0.05 tokens of SepoliaETH
• 1,000 tokens of Testnet DOP
• 1,000 tokens of 10 cryptoassets (these have no monetary value and are designed for testing purposes only)

Step 5: Get encrypting

Now it’s time to encrypt these assets so they can’t be viewed through blockchain explorers.

The details of your DOP address will already be added — but you may need to make changes if you have more than one account.

You can then select which crypto asset you want to encrypt, as well as the amount.

It’s crucial to ensure that you confirm the transaction through your external wallet.

Step 6: Send assets

Now it’s time to send encrypted assets to others in our simulated environment.

We’ve set up a Test DOP Account you can send to, so you can see how this works.. 

All you need to do is pick one of the cryptoassets you’ve just encrypted, enter the amount you wish to send to this wallet, and click Send.

Remember: any activity you complete through DOP then needs to be confirmed through the external wallet you connected earlier.

Transactions will complete in a few seconds.

Step 7: Decrypt assets

So… what happens if you want to decrypt your cryptocurrencies?

The next step involves selecting which tokens you wish to make transparent again, choosing the desired amount, and entering the wallet password.

Don’t forget to confirm that transaction in MetaMask.

You’ll receive a notification when everything has been completed successfully — but if you want to make doubly sure, you can always check on Etherscan.

Decryption means that your crypto holdings are visible to the public again, and can be transferred to any wallet you like.

Step 8: Refer three friends

There’s one final step before you’ll be entitled to a reward of DOP after our token launch in early 2024: get three friends to join.

They’ll need to use your referral link and connect their MetaMask wallets for you to be eligible.

And here’s a sweetener: if you keep inviting others to join DOP after this, you’ll receive a 20% bonus for each one who completes the testnet. The bonus will be capped at 100 people.

This is just the beginning

The testnet is Phase One of an exciting development journey for DOP.

Right now, we’re focusing on battletesting our transaction engine, as well as disclosed and undisclosed transactions.

Further features will come in the future — and by Phase Two, our attention will turn to flexible transparency options.

Right now, the testnet phase is scheduled to end in the first quarter of 2024.
